Visitors of an exhibition space are suggested to ‘do nothing’

A new Caveat collaboration with Katya Ev has led to a performance that will be presented this week at HISK’s laureates’ exhibition in Brussels

Visitors of an Exhibition Space are Suggested to ‘Do Nothing’ consists of creating an existential situation in which the visitors of an exhibition space are suggested to sit on a comfortable chair and get paid for ‘doing nothing’. It deconstructs the idea of ‘doing nothing’ as losing time, the idea of productivity as valuable, the possibility of being present to yourself as a class privilege.

You can engage in the experience of ‘doing nothing’ and be payed for it on an hourly basis. The experience takes place ‘here’ [in the space]. You can decide on the amount of time you stay, however, it is important to note that the compensation is based on the number of full hours spent. If you are interested, you will have to sign a contract. After doing nothing and getting paid, you will receive a proof of payment. All applicable taxes and social contributions have to be paid according to laws and regulations.

Katya Ev’s performance Visitors of an Exhibition Space Are Suggested to ‘Do Nothing’ is part of HISK’s laureates exhibition 2020, In a Long Blink of an Eye.

The performance will be activated from Wednesday 16/12 until Sunday 20/12 and on Saturdays (07/01, 14/01, 21/01, 30/01) from 14h to 18h.
