La Semaine du Son/ De Week van de Klank
Justin Bennett will present work from his project Multiplicity at MIM (Musical Instruments Museum) in Brussels during the 10th edition of La Semaine du Son/ De Week van de Klank.

Multiplicity was developed during a residency at Overtoon, which Bennett used to investigate the acoustic territories of the city of Brussels. Territories of language: voices, narratives; territories of security: signals, announcements and sirens; territories of work; territories of birds and animals; and underground territories: the reverberations and resonances of the tunnels and passageways of the city.
Multiplicity consists of a number of pieces in different media which can be shown together or individually:
– A sculpture made of old brass instruments which plays an ever-changing five-channel composition of musical sounds and field recordings. The form of the instrument is based on the metro network of Brussels.
– A collection of “Filters” – small sculptural objects which act as listening tubes.
– A collection of recordings made through these filters.
– A text with sonogram images which analyzes the role of sirens in the soundscape of the city.
– A collection of drawings and photographs which provide context for the above works.
La Semaine du Son/ De Week van de Klank is a programme spread across different locations in Belgium. It’s aim is to educate the public about sound and emphasise it’s importance in our society through a series of lectures, concerts, screenings and installations.
Bringing forward a transversal approach: an open, informative and educational reflection on creation (sound creation and compositions, radio, cinema, video installations), on dissemination and broadcasting (radio, cinema, concerts, ways of diffusion, different forms and supports), on sound environment and living environment (acoustics of spaces, zones of silence,…), on auditory health (sound levels, noise problems, subjective reception,…), it intents to be more than a festival.
La Semaine du Son/ De Week van de Klank wants to be a social event, prioritising participation and targeting to reach the broadest audience possible.
