ART MACHINES is an audiovisual club night that presents installations and live performances of artists that work on the cross section of art, technology and music. At the new cultural hotspot de Nijverheid Creative Coding Utrecht brings together the history of media art with the avant-garde of digital culture. We invite upcoming and established artists who’ll take the audience on a mind-blowing experience that triggers all your senses.

Joost Rekveld is an artist and experimental filmmaker. BMB con is a performance group working with sound, image, code. They will present an audiovisual piece performed in a web of unpredictable processes. Joost Rekveld developed a software inspired by how social insects such as ants and bees can be intelligent together. This produces images in which swarms of particles cause landscapes, and are influenced by it in return. Performers will respond to each other’s images and sounds based on total improvisation.
Mauricio van der Maesen de Sombreff is the selected artist of our Recoding Joost Rekveld commission. He combines his technical background with an artistic vision that is influenced by interpretations of different forms of art. He likes to experiment with different visuals and materials. Using vortex stirrer, he creates compelling visuals; combined with different colors that are gathered from Joost Rekveld’s film. The visuals will reflect the data structure gathered from the film in a chaotic way by using light and motion of the water.
