#2623

With his collaborative project BMB con. and Joost Rekveld, Justin Bennett performs #2623 at arts festival Into the Great Wide Open, Vlieland (NL)
30 & 31/08/2019, 17h

#2623 is an improvised audiovisual performance by three performers in a web of unpredictable processes. Joost Rekveld made software based the collective intelligence of social insects like ants and bees. This results in images in which flocks of particles form landscapes and are influenced in turn by those very landscapes. Justin Bennett and Roelf Toxopeus (BMB con.) work with analogue electronics, live coding and physical materials. The three performers react to each other’s images and sounds in a set-up for total improvisation.

Into The Great Wide Open is a multi-day event on the Dutch island of Vlieland. It presents innovative, authentic, and often unknown artists who fit the atmosphere that Into The Great Wide Open creates. The programmers look for acts that dare to cross borders, that are authentic at heart, and also for musicians and artists who dare to embrace the sense of surprise that the weekend offers. Much like the audience, the artists also have to step into another world for a period of at least 24 hours. The biggest festival venues form part of Vlieland’s nature: locations in the dunes and on the beach, and every year the organisation tries to show the audience new parts of Vlieland.
